Week of the Dead, Day 5

1/26/07: …the previously honored…We’ll likely salute newly dead celebrities as their deaths occur throughout 2007. This has been our only chance to kill a whole week with honoring the previous year’s dead. Of course, there are plenty of other recent losses who might still be mentioned here. For an idea of how many, check out some of the obituaries we wrote for the “Dead Folks” edition of
Black & White—now
available online.
There are different sections for
Icons,
Film,
Television,
Music,
Personalities, and
World Affairs. You can tell the entries that we wrote by the intrusive politics. Our fellow writers also made some fine contributions. We especially like the obituaries for Tony Franciosa and WASP Movie-of-the-Week icon Arthur Hill.
Meanwhile, let’s look back at the few entries from last year that saluted RightWingTrash figures that we lost in 2006.
Arthur Lee claimed to be the “first black hippie,” and probably was. He wasn’t a conservative, but his death prompted two nice memories with right-wing connotations. We were the first online source to note the passing of the legendary ’60s rocker. Sadly, our short entry sported a delusional headline. Not enough people really cared about the passing of a pioneer in acid-rock and orchestral pop.
The death of
Glenn Ford was actually announced between the hours that we wrote up
The Blackboard Jungle and sat down to post the entry here. Legendary muscleman
Mickey Hargitay died just a few months after we saluted his keen political insight.
Jane Wyatt, however, was already dead for about a week before we got around to
Father Knows Best.
Mickey Spillane was also long gone before we wrote about him, as was the fine pop vocalist
Gene Pitney. At least that’ll put to rest any rumors about the RightWingTrash Death Curse—except for how it applies to our own career arc. This still makes for only six dead folks amongst nearly six months of regular entries. Let’s hope we keep lowballing that number into this new year.
