3/10/08: Closed—But With Some Content….Deadlines loom and interfere. While we’re catching up, everyone should try tracking down the alternate ending to last year’s
I Am Legend. A few postings have been shut down, but it’s easy to find. (Here’s
a link that seems to keep working.) You can consider this new ending to be the reliable Hollywood alternative to the more faithful one that played in theaters.
Actually, this alternative ending is more faithful to the meaning of the title of Richard Matheson’s source novel. It’s still uniquely rich in Leftist idiocy—especially considering how much the remake owes to
The Omega Man. This new ending has the scientist Neville deciding that, hey, it’s not really his place to help diseased people regain their humanity. Who is Neville to judge if a segment of society wants to live in darkness and drink the blood of dogs and kill anybody who lives like Neville? A few Leftist morons have already hailed this repressed triumph as a metaphor for the U.S. presence in Iraq. Who are we to argue?
