   10/7/08 “Full Metal Jacket” (1987)

We didn’t plan to farm out today’s entry. It’s just that first we had to hear R. Lee. Ermey’s 12” disco anthem sampled from the former Marine’s role as a drill instructor in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. Then we did a search for any good links, and found that the folks at Egg City Radio had (again) provided an easily downloadable MP3 of an important musical artifact.

That same Egg City Radio entry has MP3s on two of the most baffling end credit themes of the ’80s—specifically, from 1985’s Murphy’s Law and 1986’s Deadly Friend. The site aso notes that “Full Metal Jacket” is co-credited to Abigal Mead, which is a pseudonym for Stanley Kubrick’s daughter. All we would add is lots of praise for R. Lee Ermey as a Hollywood conservative, and probably a link to his website. (Don’t skip the intro.)

To make up for this, Thursday’s entry will be another one of those yackfests that nobody ever bothers to finish reading.

Make it your own: Hey, we can also provide a link to buy your own copy of the Full Metal Jacket soundtrack. As you’ll see by the comments there, many Kubrick fans are not amused by MC USMC Ermey—especially since the dance track kicks off the disc, and that song title doesn’t give anything away.

This site rocks the casbah- say, what is your traffic? I don't see commenter's here; what's the deal?

Please do keep up the big essays- I love 'em. I print them out in the morning, get some Marlboro's and a handful of Vicodin and sit outside reading them. Very nice time. No matter what your traffic, you do have very loyal types who read everything you put out. Keep spinning, tiny dancers.
