Any entry about the newly deceased Lux Interior would’ve been kind of forced here. The most conservative thing about The Cramps was that the legendary psychobilly act was always willing to scare away the hippies. We’d also been thinking about Lux in the wake of the big Christian Bale tempter tantrum that’s been leaked all over the internet. Bale’s good, but Lux is even funnier when he tries to play diva on that version of “I Was A Teenage Werewolf” with the false start. (It’s available as a bonus track on the fine Songs The Lord Taught Us CD.)

Also, don’t be fooled by rock critics now ranting about The Cramps’ legendary live shows. (That link above provides a good example.) The Cramps were a great band in many ways, but Lux—along with longtime partner Ivy Rorschach—was often a lazy live act by the end of the ’80s. The last time we saw them was in 2004. They were only 35 minutes into their show when Lux announced they were beginning the encore portion of the evening. It was a good concert, but don’t go thinking you missed some kind of big deal. We’ll all still miss Lux, of course.
