3/12/09: RightWingTrashMan: Moe Berg
This one should really be about
The Last House on the Left. Not the remake that opens tomorrow. That one’s kind of lousy. It’s just a standard revenge fantasy presented courtesy of Hollywood hypocrisy. The original grindhouse classic has much more merit, but we’re too busy with deadlines to give that proper thought. We’ll get around to it next week.
Meanwhile, here’s yet another entry about Moe Berg. The name won’t mean much—especially since we’re not talking about the major-league baseball player and WWII spy. This particular Berg was the frontman for The Pursuit of Happiness, who were one of the best rock bands of the ’80s and ’90s. The most conservative, too. We’ve mentioned the band several times here, and once bothered with a
proper entry. Now we’re killing this one with the pleasant discovery that someone’s bothered to post
our 1997 interview with Berg. The article includes a mention of Berg’s kiss-off to his potential Leftist audience with “The Truth," and other bad career moves. There’s also this quote that sums up the plight of any musician who doesn’t practice the party line:
It seems that a lot of my negative reviews have a lot to do with the writer’s agenda. We get some reviews where I can just see the writer showing it off to his girlfriend. And here’s
a link to the video for TPOH’s “I’m An Adult Now,” which was their first big hit in Canada. That one pretty much established how the band wouldn’t be pandering to the youth market.
Make it your own: Go back to that original entry, where we linked to all the TPOH albums. They never made a bad one. Sadly, Berg’s solo album is out of print and pricey. The good news—for those who read the article—is that Berg ended up married to a nice woman who loves kids. Here’s his
MySpace page, where he posts his playlists as one of Canada’s hippest DJ’s.
