The real battle between the North and South has been the lowlife competition between White Castle and Krystal hamburgers. Both of these fast-food institutions catered many drive-in double-bills over the years. Today, they can each claim to have served plenty of starving fans looking for something to eat after the Italian zombie film marathon finally ended at 4 am.

My Southern heritage has always had me leaning towards Krystal’s, but never so proudly as when the chain launched the Hall of Fame section of their website. You can buy a large drink in a Krystal plastic cup that features this environmentally-incorrect endorsement from Jay Barr of Cape Coral, Florida: “I fly my personal plane from Cape Coral to Orlando just to pick up a sack of Krystals. Last year, I went more than 20 times!”

Sah-lute! That's even better than the Obamas flying off to New York City for dinner and a show. Also, the Krystal Hall of Fame includes a member of .38 Special. That really trumps Harold and Kumar.
