I like the “Bands I Useta Like” strip, but I’m offended at how Matty Boy Anderson’s
latest cartoon perpetuates a false myth about Toto—specifically, as the strip claims, that the band’s “drummer passed away while gardening.” It’s certainly true that the band members initially claimed that drummer Jeff Porcaro died from an allergic reaction to a pesticide. If so, Porcaro was snorting those pesticides along with all the cocaine that would lead to his fatal heart attack in 1992. In Anderson’s defense, maybe Porcaro passed away in his garden. Let’s just keep the record straight, lest other rock stars should become scared away from the joys of caring for flowers, plants, and trees.
